ARTIST STATEMENT
My work reflects my observations and thoughts on duality. I’m interested in finding balance among the chaos of everyday living. I see and experience opposing forces daily. Some are simple concepts- such as good versus evil, chaos versus order, organic versus geometric, natural versus man-made. While some are more personal-such as anxiety versus depression, conflict between inner and outer self, disorganization versus obsessive compulsive. I'm fascinated by the delicate point at which these opposing forces meet to create balance. I use a variety of papers, fibers, painting and drawing to represent the chaos of everyday life.
Editing, rearranging, dissecting, reassembling, and stitching together these parts with deliberate choice are a way to balance the chaos I experience and take back control.
“...an artist’s job is to make order out of chaos. You collect details, look for pattern, and organize. You make sense out of senseless facts. You puzzle together bits of everything. You shuffle and reorganize. Collage. Montage. Assemble. Everything is a self-portrait. Everything is a diary.”
~Excerpt from Diary: A Novel by Chuck Palahniuk
